It’s December 21st and we are plowing through the holiday season!
Have you been to four parties in the last week and vowed after each to say “no” to the passed apps and another mistletoe martini? It’s ok, you’re human!

Thanksgiving is just one week away, and that means so is the “open season” of eating we call The Holidays!
It starts with you behaving by sticking to the crudite before your meal. You plan to eat some white meat and salad, but then you have a glass of wine. Before you know it, you’re sampling stuffing, some potatoes, and pie. Then the pie goes a-la-mode and the diet goes hasta la vista!
Even as a dairy-avoiding-vegetarian, overeating packs on the pounds. I have been dieting diligently for a few months now and really don’t want to ruin the seven pound weight loss that I have earned. I am also being realistic that this month is the start of major mealtime-meltdowns!
With that, I present to you my holiday eating damage control diet: SOS!

For anyone who was following my diet reviews, no I did not starve to death on the Skinny Bitch Diet!
I hit a bit of a rough patch (work-life imbalance!) and before I knew it, days are flying by postless and m.i.a. I am sorry for the interruption, but I am back 🙂
I did stick to The Bitch for the month of September and I did lose about 5lbs by the end of it. I was able to ditch caffeine, meat, seafood, dairy, eggs, and most white devils (sugar, flour, salt).

Veggie love is in da house!
I will admit that I am already a dairy avoiding pescatarian, but The Bitch takes it all the way the max. No meat, no seafood, no dairy. Also, just like doing laundry, the diet doesn’t want whites (sugar,flour,rice) anywhere near your colors (veggies and fruits)!

Ahh, vacation! A little break from reality and, despite my best efforts, from dieting as well.
I did my best to stick to eating clean, practicing portion control, and to keeping up at the gym. For the most part, it worked. I didn’t gain any weight, but I didn’t lose any either.
It’s time to detox, and that’s going to be a real ‘bitch”. A Skinny Bitch that is!

Last week, shortly after I blogged about the potential health and anti-aging benefits of adding Acai to your diet on FightFineLines.com, the FITFineLines team came across an incredible news story!
Reporter Julia Miller at News 6 took it upon herself to try the “Acai Optimum” and “Advanced Colon Diet” for 4 weeks (This sounds surprisingly similar to The Princess Project right here on FIT!). After 4 weeks, she lost 25 pounds with no special diet, and no intense exercise! Sounds like the mighty Acai just got mightier!!
This amazing “news report,” impressed us until we read the fine print:
“…THIS WEBSITE IS ONLY ILLUSTRATIVE OF WHAT MIGHT BE ACHIEVABLE FROM USING THIS/THESE PRODUCTS, AND THAT THE STORY/COMMENTS DEPICTED ABOVE IS NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY.”
We quickly realized that we were looking at an advertisement for a fasting/cleansing type set of products, and NOT a real news story. Bummer dude…

The Special K Challenge (SKC) has been making meal planning insanely easy. Two out of three meals a day consist of a bowl of cereal! I have also been following the plan’s recommendation of munching on two different Special K snack items (one mid-morning and one mid-afternoon), and adding a serving of fruit with my meals.
With eight flavors of cereal, fifteen snack options, and eight additional meal-supplement products there is a lot of variety to keep you from getting bored.

This was the week of cukes-and-zukes!
I completed one week of Tosca’s “Cooler One” meal plan, which was a big change from the rest of The Eat Clean Diet so far. I ate more cucumbers and zucchini than I’ve ever had in my life! Yes, I really wanted more carbs than the plan allows, but I did my best 99% of the week, and I lost another pound!

I’ve been an Eat Clean-vegan all , and am feeling fantastic! I’ve lost three pounds total, so far, and am heading to the beach today…in a bikini!
People tend to think that a vegan diet is super bland and restrictive, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! The Eat Clean Diet already promotes cutting down on dairy (no one ever lost weight on the “eat cheese diet”), avoiding alcohol, and sticking to lean proteins, so veg’ eating fits the bill perfectly!

Week two is up, and I am happy to report that I lost 2 pounds!
It was a tough week all around. I had to travel all day on Thursday, but managed to still eat clean. I really aimed to buckle down on the portion sizes and eating 5 meals a day. I even brought my own leftover veggie rice noodles to eat on the plane, and while I’m sure no one else appreciated the fragrant onions and garlic, I was happy to have stuck to my plan!
I also kept it up at the gym. Saturday morning, I took a step aerobics class for the first time since the 90’s. It should have been called “kick” because that’s what it did to my body! The instructor did a phenomenal job of mixing things up with step, weights, Bosu, and abs. I have to say that the biggest motivator for me was keeping up with my 60-something mom! Kudos to you, Sue (and happy birthday!).
What I learned this week:
- Buy re-usable containers in the sizes you need to help you keep proper portions. Don’t be cheap! Once you have them, they make life way easier.
- Mix up your workout as often as you can! I can’t believe that a step aerobics class challenged me as much as it did. Working out with a friend helps too!
- Persistence pays! The scale finally moved!
My goals for Week 3:
- I’m going for the Vegan Meal Plan this week! That means paying extra attention to ingredients, avoiding too much processed vegetarian fare, and keeping track of carbs. Tosca’s vegan meal plan in The Eat Clean Diet book is excellent and motivated me to go back to being a super-veg for the week!
- 6 work outs this week!
- Lose another 2 pounds. This isn’t going to be easy, but I really want it!

Would you go vegan to lose weight?
The Eat Clean Diet isn’t the only thing conditioning my body back into shape. I have been hitting the gym regularly and HARD!
The worst part about beginning to weight train and exercise again is the pain that comes with the process of building up muscle strength and endurance. You feel like you got hit by a Mack truck!
These “training pains” are a very important and unavoidable phase of getting in shape. There’s actually a name for this process: conditioning. Since I haven’t completely been out of the gym, I am re-charging my body with some intense weight and cardio combos.

I survived the 4th of July without exploding my whole diet!
I said it would be a challenge, and it was. I have to admit that I “indulged” in two cheat meals, but I really did my best to make them as clean as possible, and enjoyed them tremendously! I have also been kicking my booty big time at the gym, so I’m hoping to still see a little change in the scale at the end of Week One.

I want to be a “25” again before I turn “35“. If you’re thinking, “Don’t we all?”, you’re probably around the same age as me, and dreaming of your wild nights out and being able to survive on 4 hours of sleep every night. What I really mean though, is that I have a pair of ultra sexy, J Brand jeans that are a size “25“, and I did fit in them when I bought them 2 years ago (in my 30’s!). Now, they just lay there, patiently waiting to go out one night, like a lonely housewife.
My plan of action:
- try a new diet every 30 days
- hit the gym regularly
- take control of my body for the rest of my life!

Too many calories? Absolutely! Worth every bite? You bet!

- Pulled Pork: 2 freakin’ delicious servings = 800 calories
- Home-made Sausage: 2 monster-size links = 850 calories
- Beef Brisket: 1 super tender serving = 305 calories
- Soft Roll: 1/2 serving = 80 calories
- BBQ Sauce: 5 servings (10tbsp) = 350 calories
- BBQ Beans: 1/2 serving = 100 calories
- Coleslaw: 1 serving = 65 calories
- Blueberry Cobbler a la mode: 1 serving = 450 calories
TOTAL = 3000 calories!!!

- Treadmill: 4 hours
- Stepmill: 4.6 hours
- Stairmaster: 6 hours
- Stationary Bike: 7.1 hours
- Weightlifting: 11 hours
