Heidi Klum isn’t giving anyone the “cold shoulder” looking this hot!
Aside from being sexy eye-candy, our shoulders assist in daily movement and help physical performance more than you may be giving them credit for. Carrying heavy bags of fresh autumn fashion, dressing in your new duds, even swiping your credit card all call upon the most complex joint in your body.
As a former baseball pitcher, shot-putter, discus thrower and jiu-jitsu player, my shoulders have suffered soft tissue tears, bone chips, tendinitis, and arthritis. After multiple dislocations and painful separations, nobody knows how important his shoulder strength is more than I do.

Week two is up, and I am happy to report that I lost 2 pounds!
It was a tough week all around. I had to travel all day on Thursday, but managed to still eat clean. I really aimed to buckle down on the portion sizes and eating 5 meals a day. I even brought my own leftover veggie rice noodles to eat on the plane, and while I’m sure no one else appreciated the fragrant onions and garlic, I was happy to have stuck to my plan!
I also kept it up at the gym. Saturday morning, I took a step aerobics class for the first time since the 90’s. It should have been called “kick” because that’s what it did to my body! The instructor did a phenomenal job of mixing things up with step, weights, Bosu, and abs. I have to say that the biggest motivator for me was keeping up with my 60-something mom! Kudos to you, Sue (and happy birthday!).
What I learned this week:
- Buy re-usable containers in the sizes you need to help you keep proper portions. Don’t be cheap! Once you have them, they make life way easier.
- Mix up your workout as often as you can! I can’t believe that a step aerobics class challenged me as much as it did. Working out with a friend helps too!
- Persistence pays! The scale finally moved!
My goals for Week 3:
- I’m going for the Vegan Meal Plan this week! That means paying extra attention to ingredients, avoiding too much processed vegetarian fare, and keeping track of carbs. Tosca’s vegan meal plan in The Eat Clean Diet book is excellent and motivated me to go back to being a super-veg for the week!
- 6 work outs this week!
- Lose another 2 pounds. This isn’t going to be easy, but I really want it!

I survived the 4th of July without exploding my whole diet!
I said it would be a challenge, and it was. I have to admit that I “indulged” in two cheat meals, but I really did my best to make them as clean as possible, and enjoyed them tremendously! I have also been kicking my booty big time at the gym, so I’m hoping to still see a little change in the scale at the end of Week One.

Besides her “Do Anywhere Ab Routine”, Jewel attributes her great look to staying away from “an all-or-nothing mentality when it comes to food”. “The more extreme I am, like saying that ‘I’m not going to eat carbs’, the further it’s going to swing to the other side and i’m going to binge”, says the beautiful singer. Jewel stays trim by eating “lots of raw vegetables, kale, and dandelion greens lightly sauteed in olive oil”.

Katy Perry looked amazing slim and trim in her Miami-esque rubber dress for her performance in Times Square earlier this week!
“I don’t follow trends. I’m just not into what everyone else is wearing. I have my own look, which I call ‘Lolita Meets Old Hollywood Glam.”, Katy says when asked about her fashion sense.
When questioned about her super FIT bod, she keeps it simple: “I’m competitive with myself, and that goes hand in hand with how I present myself. “I’m not only trying to put one foot in front of the other, I’m trying to put my best foot forward.”
Kudos to Katy! There’s not many woman who could pull this off, but she had no problem on top of that car in the middle of the busiest place on earth!
